Protein X-ray Laboratory (PXL)

The PXL is located in the basement of the Chemistry Building Annex (CHBA) room B9

PXL Services available:

How it works: [See Schedule of Fees for associated costs]

NOTE: We are a resource that provides crystallographic data to the User in support of proposals for funding on specific targets of interest. We will, whenever possible, provide data that demonstrates the User's sample has reproducible crystallization conditions that lead to a diffraction quality crystal. The purpose of the PXL at this time is not to collect full datasets or determine structures for external clients.

When crystals of the target protein are obtained from the PCL, a series of cryopreservation solutions will be investigated for their ability to produce a "glass-like" state upon freezing in liquid nitrogen and also for their ability to stabilize the crystal over a period of up to a few hours prior to freezing.

Each crystal will be identified by a unique barcode and this barcode identification will also serve as the file name used to identify the sample in our X-ray Generator software.

Preliminary analysis information of each cryopreserved crystal based on two exposures, 90 degrees apart will be taken. Quality of the crystal (single predominant lattice, low mosaicity, good Intensity, high resolution (>3.0Å)) will be reported for each cryopreserved crystal to demonstrate that the crystal is protein, not salt.

Upon completion of preliminary crystal analysis, the User will be contacted. All relevant information obtained from the analysis, cryopreservation procedure, crystallization conditions and all necessary computer files will be transferred to the User.

Schedule of Fees:

The following charges for OU researchers have been approved by the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry PXL User's Group. Non-academic, non-profit organizations and academic institutions outside of OU will be charged these rates plus a 50% overhead charge. Questions about these charges should be directed to the lab manager (405) 325-7571. Under special circumstances, these fees may be waived upon approval of the Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Fees
Crystal Screening
Assumed variables
4 hours X-ray usage and related consumables
Total costs
$27.00

Unless other prior arrangements are made, information about lab charges will be accumulated to the end of the current month and forwarded to the Chemistry & Biochemistry department's staff for preparation of invoices.

At this time credit/debit cards are not accepted for payment.
